A video has recently gone viral showing a raccoon trapped inside a vending machine near a gas station, casually looking for snacks, while other raccoons waiting outside. Many viewers found it hilarious, while others believed it was filmed at a real gas station late at night. But before accepting the clip at face value, let’s check the authenticity of the video.
Here’s what we found when closely reviewing the clip:
Even though the clip seems to be filmed at night, the overall visual texture seems unnaturally smooth and slightly blurred in motion. The video struggle to maintain fine details when raccoons or things move quickly. The fur of the raccoons shifts in a strange smeared pattern instead of behaving like natural hair reflecting light.
At several points in the video, the tail and limb of raccoon (the one inside the vending machine) vanish and reappear suddenly, instead of moving naturally. At the starting of video, even the raccoon inside the vending machine completely blurs, which seems to be an AI glitch.
The movement of the raccoon in the machine is uneven and unnatural, making it look off. When it moves quickly behind the glass, its body warps in unnatural ways. The video also struggles to keep the details consistent when the raccoon moves behind the reflective surface, creating noticeable distortions.
Naturally, raccoons are highly food aggressive. When one grabs something to eat, others rush in and try to take it. But in this video, the raccoons outside just sit quietly and watch while one raccoon takes a snack bag without any competition, which is not how they normally behave. The raccoon’s bag that taken out from vending machine suddenly disappears for a few seconds, as if it vanished into thin air, then reappears moments later.
The vending machine label doesn’t even spell "Snack" correctly. It misspells as "Saack" in a strange, stylized font that doesn’t match the clean, standard lettering normally used on real vending machines. The text is also found to be distorted and uneven, very similar to what we found on AI-generated videos.
The vending machine is placed right next to a gas pump, which is unusual. The surroundings don’t match either, like there is grass on one side, but the gas pump is positioned toward the opposite side, creating a confusing layout.
The Facebook account that shared this clip, Evan Era, has posted many other videos that seem digitally generated. This doesn’t prove anything about this specific video, but the posting pattern gives useful context. When a creator frequently uploads similar digitally created content, it increases the chance that this one is also the same.
The combination of unnatural raccoon behavior, visual rendering errors, environmental inconsistencies, and the creator’s history of posting AI-generated content suggests that this clip is likely an AI-generated video rather than real footage of raccoons at a gas station.
This wild video is a good reminder to pause and think, just because something goes viral doesn’t mean it’s real.
